Early Voting

October 18-29, 2010

It is my privilege to announce that I am officially a candidate for Justice, Place 4, 5th District Court of Appeals. This intermediate appellate court covers the counties of Dallas, Collin, Kaufman, Grayson, Hunt and Rockwall and I will be a proud representative of this district. I want to thank all of those who have signed my petitions, given me encouragement and support, all, without which, I would not be your candidate for Justice, Place 4.

I believe that my background and experience make me uniquely qualified to serve you in this capacity. Having graduated law school from the George Washington University, the National Law Center, in 1990, I commenced practicing law with a major Dallas law firm in the area of civil and commercial litigation. Due to my knowledge in the areas of construction and procurement, I began to work with the state and local government group, representing primarily municipalities, and advising on all aspects of local governance such as economic development, contracts, procurement, construction, employment, code enforcement, land use, planning and zoning issues, variances, and municipal court prosecution. In February of 2003, I opened my solo practice, focusing on municipal representation, and receiving my first appointment as a Municipal Court Judge. For well over 10 years I have taught municipal court judges, prosecutors, city officials and city staff on a variety of topics that affect municipalities.

My almost twenty years in the trenches as a city attorney, a prosecutor, a civil litigator, with 6 years as a trial judge, have prepared me for the appellate bench, where I can draw on my experience and understanding of how appellate decisions are applied in courtrooms every day, and how they affect the lives of those who seek justice in our courts.
We need appellate judges who know how their decisions will impact the way cases are handled at the trial court level, that one decision can impact thousands of cases and should be decided with not only a full appreciation of the trial process, but with broad understanding of the underlying law, whether it be civil or criminal, to reach decisions that promotes clarity.

I vow to carefully analyze each case and give thoughtful consideration to each decision, providing a thorough review of the facts, the evidence, application of relevant law, and rendering a decision consistent and in keeping with the laws of our state, federal and state constitutions. I am fair and impartial and will follow the letter of the law, providing interpretation in keeping with its spirit, under the laws and constitution of this state and of the United States, to do justice, preserve liberty, that the men and women of our armed forces are striving daily to protect.

I believe that my life, professional and judicial experiences have provided me the foundation needed to be a Justice on the Fifth District Court of Appeals and I truly hope that you will find me to be the candidate of choice for you and I ask for your support.
